Richard Furry Died Friday

Services for Richard Monroe Furry are being held today (Monday) at 2 p.m. in the Spencer Chapel with the Rev. Bill Wynn officiating. Burial is to be in Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Furry died at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Leonard in St. Louis Sept. 27, 1963, after a lingering illness. Born in Dent County Dec. 2, 1876, Mr. Furry was nearing his 87th birthday. He married Etta Belle Gibbs in 1897 and three children were born, one of whom died in infancy.

Surviving are his children, Richard W. and Julia Furry Leonard; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, All of St. Louis; one brother, Bert Lutzenberger of Amory, Miss.; one sister, Erma Mayden of Weleetka, Okla., and, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Furry spent the last 30 years of his, active life with the Frisco Railroad as fireman and extra engineer, most of which time he lived in Salem. He joined the New Home Baptist Church about 1900, later moving his membership to the First Baptist Church of Salem, where it remained until his death.
